Konadu to attend President Mahama’s inauguration

rawlings'Former President John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings are scheduled to attend President Mahama’s State of the Nation’s address on Friday, January 4 and the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect, John Mahama on Monday, January 7, 2013.

Speaking on Accra based Citi FM on Thursday, Kofi Adams, Spokesperson for the ex-President explained that both the former President and his wife have been duly invited to attend both ceremonies but Mrs. Rawlings will only be absent if she has other pressing engagements.

“That is what the invitation stated and nothing has changed. He has attended all these functions with his wife…so once she is in the country, and nothing has taken her elsewhere, she will be present. The only reason that will keep her away is that she is not around and has been engaged with some other assignments.”

The former First Lady resigned from the NDC and became the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP). The party failed to contest the 2012 Presidential elections due to her failure to meet the Electoral Commission’s deadline for submission of nomination forms leading to her disqualification.

She has on several occasions advised the electorates to vote out her former party, the NDC, because they have failed to transform the nation. She also supported a free SHS policy which the opposition NPP was trumpeting.

Mr. Adams clarified that if the former first lady fails to show up at both ceremonies, “it is not because she put herself up to lead the NDP that is the reason why she will not attend a state function.”
